Competency Assessment Services
In 2021, Network Rail introduced NR/L2/RSE/02009, requiring key project team members such as Designated Project Engineers (DPE), Project Engineers (PE), Contractors Engineering Managers (CEM) and Contractors Responsible Engineers (CRE) to be assessed against set knowledge and performance criteria.
At EdisonPlus we can assess CEM (Design) and CRE (Design - Track Engineers) with our Technical Director. In addition, we can carry out initial assessments, and provide preparation and pre-assessment services for all other disciplines, in advance of their formal assessment by a suitable assessor.

Initial Assessment
We provide independent, structured initial assessments to help understand the current capability of your engineering teams. Each review is carried out by experienced engineer and aligned to recognised industry and professional standards, giving you a clear picture of strengths, development needs, and readiness for progression.

Preparation
After the initial assessment, we help you turn insight into action. You receive a clear summary of strengths, development needs, and priority areas, along with practical guidance on how to prepare for the next stage of your professional journey. This ensures every engineer begins with a solid understanding of where they stand and what comes next.

The Assessment
Your tailored assessment provides a structured view of technical competence, professional behaviours, against the requirements of NR/L2/RSE/02009. It highlights evidence against the knowledge and performance requirements. This gives both individuals and organisations a reliable foundation for competency development planning and career advancement.

Mentoring
Following the assessment, engineers are matched with an experienced mentor who provide targeted support. Mentoring focuses on building confidence, strengthening weaker areas, and developing the professional behaviours needed for higher responsibility. Each mentoring plan is personalised, practical, and aligned to long‑term career goals.

Certification
Where certification or professional registration is the goal, we map your assessment outcomes directly to the relevant standards. You receive clear guidance on what evidence is already in place, what needs strengthening. This structured pathway helps engineers progress toward recognised professional competency with confidence.

Ongoing Assessments
Development doesn’t stop after the first review or assessment. Regular follow‑up assessments track progress, refine goals, and ensure continued alignment with industry expectations. These ongoing checks help maintain competence, support career growth, and give organisations long‑term visibility of engineering capability.
